CHIFeature
Despite, well, everything, new restaurants continue to open in Chicago. So when we find one with delicious food, we’re still going to tell you all about it. And Han Burger is one of these places. It’s a virtual restaurant (meaning it’s takeout and delivery only, not owned by The Lawnmower Man) that opened in Humboldt Park on June 1st. Their specialty is roujiamo: a Chinese sandwich filled with spicy slow-cooked meat and peppers on a housemade mo bun.
Han Burger has a short menu - just two fillings to choose from (brisket or pork belly) with roasted potatoes as a side dish. Both versions are absolutely delicious, with juicy meat that’s perfectly seasoned and a bunch of different spices that build just the right amount of heat. Plus, all that juice soaks into the chewy mo bun and creates a very satisfying dumpling-like texture. In other words, please go order a sandwich from this place.
Food Rundown:
The Han Solo
This is the pork belly version, which comes with cilantro and peppers. There’s a great balance of spices (like star anise and ginger) and sichuan pepper that gives it heat. You can order this with their garlic aioli, and you should.
The Beef Han
The beef is brisket, and it goes perfectly with the combination of peppers and same flavorful spices as the pork. We thought it might be less juicy than the pork, but nope - it’s great.
Paprika Potatoes
These roasted potatoes are such a perfect counterpoint to the spicy meat, they’ll make you say “f*ck fries.”
