When the pandemic hit and restaurants closed, Avec was exactly the kind of restaurant we worried about. After all, it’s hard to imagine how a small, shoebox-shaped restaurant with communal seating could survive. Even with the return of indoor dining, social distancing and reduced capacity is still very much a thing, and carryout and delivery can only go so far.
But on February 12th, Avec is opening a big River North location in the former Pacific Standard Time space. Avec 2.0’s Mediterranean menu will have all of the Avec classics (like the pork shoulder, dates, and the focaccia), but will also have some new dishes, plus more pastas, pizzas, and desserts. Everything is available for indoor dining as well as carryout and delivery, though no outdoor seating yet.
As far as the original 17-year old location in the West Loop is concerned, it’s still open and putting out delicious food. True story: we ordered the paella two weeks ago and it was great.
