As restaurants across the city start to reopen for indoor dining, some places are choosing to remain open for outdoor dining or takeout only, primarily out of precaution. While we miss dining in at these spots, we’re more than happy to support them in their new normals - especially because they’re still serving some incredible food. Here are five of our favorites.
The Spots
Cambridge farm-to-table spot Bondir is open for takeout on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday from 2-6pm, though you’ll have to place an order by 9am the day before. If that sounds like too much work, you might reconsider after having a look at their lobster roll on marbled brioche bread, or any number of their other baked goods.
There was already limited space at Tawakal prior to the pandemic, so the possibility of a socially-distanced meal here was never really in the cards - but they’re still open for takeout and delivery. The biryani with hot sauce and coconut milk grits are just as good at home as they are at the restaurant (yes, we’ve ordered both numerous times during the quarantine).
If, for some reason, you’re looking to take your hot dog consumption to a whole new level this summer, then you should head to Trina’s. They’ve got a hot dog special every day of the week - the pancake-battered and poutine dog are just two previously featured versions. The patio is open for reservations, but this place is also open for takeout from 4-9pm, Wed-Sun.
Any meal at Loyal Nine is a great meal, which is good news because their patio is open Tues-Sun from 9am onwards. You could foreseeably have fried steel-cut oats for breakfast, a lobster roll for lunch, and crispy smoked haddock for dinner one of these days. Sounds like a great day to us.
Stoked in Brookline makes pizza that’s a mix between Neapolitan and New York-style, and they’re equally liberal with their choices for toppings (see buffalo brussel sprout and cheeseburger). So while this may not be a pie for the traditionalist, it’s a delicious option for the rest of us.
