ATXReview
The food at Texsueño is a modernized and fresh take on Tex-Mex that veers more towards the Tex side of things, inspired by the chef’s west Texas roots. What’s happening here is super unique and in a lot of ways, there’s nothing quite like it in Austin. Freshly nixtamalized corn tortillas are the center of the menu, deployed in dishes like a game-changing sweet potato taco served with a pecan-golden raisin salsa macha, and the old-school crispy tacos (get it with the cheesy potatoes). The roasted chicken and cheese flautas—rolled and fried tacos served vertically, sitting in both a smoked tomatillo ranch and a chili oil—are one of the most memorable things we’ve eaten in the past year. It’s currently located at Fierce Whiskers Distillery in South Austin.
