Rosita’s Al Pastor is a small trailer parked in the lot of a bingo hall on Riverside Drive in East Austin, and it's home to the best al pastor tacos we've ever had. There's also a restaurant run by the same people a few hundred yards away, but the truck is where we like to spend our time. So that's what we'll focus on here.
A typical visit to the Rosita's truck involves putting in an order and waiting for a few minutes amongst people who are most definitely regular customers, and most definitely know Mexican food better than you do. This should give you confidence that what you are in for is an authentic taco experience, and an excellent one at that. Lines can get lengthy during lunch time and in the early evening, and plan to wait 10-15 minutes between order time and taco-in-your-face time. No matter what the wait is like - it's worth it.
As for ordering, you obviously want a few al pastor tacos, but a migas taco with chorizo is also highly advised. Sit at the picnic table and stuff your face, or enjoy from the hood of your car. God bless Texas.
Probably the best one we've ever had. The al pastor is shaved right off the trompo (Spanish for beautiful meat spindle), and is lean and perfectly spiced. We prefer ours on corn tortillas, but you do you.
Scrambled eggs, chorizo, and bits of crunchy tortilla chip, wrapped up in a taco. Eat it for breakfast, or eat it for dinner. Just eat it.
