Curra's Grill

Curra’s is a perfect blend of interior Mexican cuisine and greasy Tex-Mex located just off the main vein of South Congress on Oltorf. The restaurant has a neighborhood feel, with enough dirt on the walls to prove that it’s of an older generation than most of the other restaurants around it. Curra’s exists in a class alongside other local mainstays Maudies and Gueros, operating on a steady platform of old Austin nostalgia, margaritas, and queso.

The interior Mexican element of the menu means there are more adventurous seafood options instead of just the lard-heavy cheese dishes so common in Tex Mex eating. The blackened fish enchiladas are particularly good, as is the carnitas and their mole.

That said, the service at Curra's is usually subpar, so temper your expectations. Don’t expect much in terms of a quick entry and exit, especially during busy happy hour visits.

Food Rundown

Avocado Margaritas

They’re thick, savory, and strong, and Curra's has largely made their name off them. Worth trying, though you definitely don't need two.

The hangover cure trifecta of of eggs, cheese, and tortilla chips. Pair it up with a strong cup of coffee and/or a beer to turn a new leaf.

Tacos Al Pastor Plate

A plate of spicy pork tacos topped with pineapples, onions, and cilantro. If you’re unfamiliar with pastor tacos and find yourself at Curra’s, this is a great place to begin a meaningful long-term relationship.

Tacos Encebollados

Steak tacos rubbed in coffee grounds and covered in habanero sauce. You can do this.
