Updated December 18th, 2020

Winter brings with it a lot of great things - like ugly sweaters, lower AC bills, and hot cocoa - and while this year’s holiday might look a little bit different, we can at least rally around some drinks. Lots of spots around town are helping us get through the season with special holiday-themed cocktail menus. Here are a few you can get today.

The Spots

Nicolai McCrary

Nickel City

$$$$ 1133 E 11th St

Every year around this time, Nickel City puts on their winter jacket and dresses up as Sippin’ Santa, but this is the first year you’ll be able to celebrate the season with them at home. Most of the drinks here are tiki-inspired, including the namesake Sippin’ Santa made with aged rum, amaro, nutmeg, cinnamon, lemon, and orange. All the Sippin’ Santa merch is available to order as well. So squeeze onto the couch shoulder-to-shoulder with your four cats to get the full Nickel City experience at home.

Small Victory

$$$$ 108 E 7th St

Small Victory has been quiet for a while, but they’ve recently reopened for takeout, with a limited menu of bottled cocktails and charcuterie boards. And just in time, because we were worried about missing out on their excellent aged eggnog this year (maybe that’s what they’ve been working on all these months). And if you haven’t had aged eggnog before, trust us when we say it’s probably the only egg-based thing that really does get better with age. You can also throw in a cheese & charcuterie plate, because there’s not much cozier than cheese, charcuterie, and eggnog on a cold December night.

The Little Darlin'

$$$$ 6507 Circle S Rd

The South Austin bar/restaurant The Little Darlin’ wants to keep you toasty. They’ve got a very winter-y cocktail menu featuring drinks like a hot apple cider (with rum), a Hot Toddy, Irish coffee, and a spiked hot chocolate with marshmallows where you can pick between tequila, peppermint schnapps, and fireball cinnamon whiskey, and more.

Raphael Brion

Little Brother

$$$$ 89 Rainey St

Little Brother, the tiniest bar on Rainey Street, has a holiday menu full of yuletide joy. There are drinks like the Brandes Mint Hot Cocoa (that comes with a mint smore) on top and a boozy frappucino with allspice and vanilla. There’s also a drink called “Aunt Susie Spiked The Wine Pot” - served hot or iced, it’s a mulled wine with rum, gin, molasses, and a bunch of winter-y spices. If you get it to go, you’ll want to heat it back up at home, and it’ll make your house smell very much like the holidays. Aunt Susie makes a strong and tasty drink.

$$$$ 207 E 53rd St

Cosmos are usually reserved for whoever watches Sex And The City or for the ’90s, but we trust that the folks at Drink Well knew what they were doing when they offered a spiced cranberry cosmopolitan on their takeout menu. Even better - proceeds benefit the Independent Restaurant Coalition, so you can finally see what a cranberry/charity/vodka crossover tastes like.

Contigo Austin

$$$$ 2027 Anchor Ln

There’s nothing inherently holiday-ish about a paloma - it’s mostly tequila, lime, and grapefruit soda. But once you throw sage into the mix it starts feeling especially wintery. At least that’s what we assume went through Contigo’s heads when they started offering their sage paloma. You can even order it in a 4-pack if you want to turn a fun night into a fun weekend. Or you can just pick up one of their excellent frozen painkillers if you’re not willing to accept that summer is over.

Prohibition Creamery

$$$$ 1407 E 7th St

At Prohibition Creamery you can get ice cream - boozy or regular - in scoop or milkshake form, making it a great option for after dinner desserts/drinks at all times of the year. But their current menu feels especially fitting right now, with a whole page of hot drinks for takeout. With mezcal hot toddies, spiked peppermint hot chocolate, and horchata coffees - they’ve got the whole spectrum of hot drinks covered here.
