Hsu's Gourmet
The dated pictures of actors and athletes on the dark red wall only tell part of Hsu’s Gourmet story. Yes, it was a buzzing place in the ’90s and 2000s, but for a downtown restaurant to have an old photo up of Yao Ming today yet still be packed on a Thursday night tells you that convention-goers and locals still like what’s being served. Spicy Anna’s seafood noodle soup, named after the co-owner who still makes her nightly rounds in the dimly-lit restaurant, is a balanced starter filled with shrimp and scallop chunks. The curry chicken is a tender, well-seasoned treat that’ll make others in your dinner party jealous. On the other hand, though the whole red snapper’s meatiness can be wildly inconsistent, the photogenic catch does look good enough to hang next to Betty White.
