Highland Bakery
Highland Bakery has been a reliable favorite for breakfast and sandwiches since in 2004 when new ownership turned the historic 1930s bakery into a bonafide eatery. Since then, you can pretty much bank on a wait for weekend brunch at the original location in Old Fourth Ward. Because of that, we prefer to slide in on the weekdays for their signature cinnamon rolls and sweet potato pancakes. But since the bread is made in-house, it’s always a good call to get a sandwich. Get the grilled pimento cheese, which is paired with sharp Vermont cheddar for that extra punch, and we always like to add crispy bacon. With a seat near the window, you can watch the runners just off the Freedom Park Trail or influencers trekking up to Jackson Street Bridge for photo ops.
