We haven’t had a fried bologna sandwich since middle school, but one bite of the sandwich at Dad’s in Virginia Highland took us right back to those braceface days. Dad’s is doing it right with thick bologna topped with purple cabbage slaw and mustard barbecue sauce for a nice smoky flavor. They’ve got other culinary odes to latchkey kid Americana with items like cheesy pizza rolls, french toast sticks, and even “White Kastle” burgers. Staying true to its namesake, the man cave digs feature funky red bulb lighting above the bar, a working jukebox full of generic rock songs, and movies like Kindergarten Cop projected on the walls. It’s worth a visit to the bathrooms to peruse the wall of famous dudes from sitcoms and movies (not to brag but we coil name ‘em all).
