Bread & Butterfly

Have you ever imagined what it would be like to live in France? You’d live a life of regular riverside picnics and always have a baguette on your person. And of course you’d have a go-to, all-day cafe where you could eat croissants for breakfast and then come back for a great evening meal too. Atlanta definitely isn’t Paris, but when you want to live out that dream just a little bit without bringing a passport, there’s Bread and Butterfly.

This Inman Park cafe opens early seven days a week and is a great place to start your morning with a pastry, or stop by in the evening for a glass of wine and steak frites. They have a side patio if you want to sit outside (or if you brought your dog - very French of you), a big wooden bar topped with fresh baked goods, and a dining room with retractable doors that can quickly become a breezy outdoor space, depending on what the weather’s like when you show up.

No matter when you come here, the food is always simple and excellent. While breakfast and dinner are when Bread & Butterfly really shines, they do serve lunch as well. Besides croissants and scones, the small breakfast menu includes dishes like eggs Florentine, an omelette, and avocado toast, while at lunch they serve a few different soups, salads, and sandwiches. Bread and Butterfly is always somewhat busy, but dinner is when it gets the liveliest. You can eat things like housemade charcuterie, cauliflower soup with caviar, and the largest bowl of moules frites you’ll ever see, all while listening to the their house jazz band and drinking a cocktail.

Even when this place is packed on the weekend, the staff is always super attentive, but they never rush you, which is great for everyone from the solo laptop worker at the bar, to the group that comes here for a birthday bunch. Bread and Butterfly is somewhere that you can spend five minutes, or five hours, and at the end of it, you might just commit to carrying around a baguette on the regular.

Food Rundown

Charcuterie

Available most of the day, this sizable spread makes for a great mid-day snack for two or three people, or one very hungry person who is really into chicken liver. In addition to that, it comes with thick prosciutto, chorizo, whole grain mustard, pickles, pickled red onion, and a few slices of baguette.

Moules Frites

You could get this huge bowl of mussels and fries for yourself, but it’s probably a better idea to share. It’s the perfect appetizer for a group of people who know they love mussels, but also think fries should come with everything.

Burger Americain

If making a burger “American” means adding a second patty and topping it with gruyere cheese, then sign us up. It also comes with whole grain mustard, caramelized onion and an aioli. Not a classic burger really, but that’s exactly why we like it.

Wild Mushrooms

More of a side to share than an entree, this dish includes four kinds of mushrooms, shallots, garlic and parsley. If you’re in need of some extra vegetables on your table, this is a good choice.

Steak Frites

A classic platter of steak and fries. The meat is perfectly cooked and sliced, the fries are crispy, and it comes with an arugula salad because life’s all about balance.
