A Note From The Author

How To Drink Wine is a new book from The Infatuation Co-Founder & CEO, Chris Stang. You can buy it now.

By now, hopefully you’ve come to rely on The Infatuation as the place to come for relatable, entertaining, and useful restaurant knowledge. Today, I’m here hoping that you’ll start to come to us for wine knowledge too.

Over the next few months, you’ll start to see The Infatuation start to dabble in the world of reviewing and writing about wine, starting with a newsletter than you can sign up for here.

I’m also hoping that you’ll kick this journey off with us by checking out a book I wrote on the subject: How to Drink Wine (Clarkson Potter / $16.99) is in stores now.

Unlike what many wine books claim, I am here to tell you that How To Drink Wine is not going to make you an immediate expert. But it will help you understand the fundamentals and give you enough knowledge to begin to incorporate wine into your life.

Written by myself and Grant Reynolds, award-winning sommelier and owner of Parcelle Wine in NYC, this book is designed to give you a baseline from which to build - but with perspective. How to Drink Wine will help you learn about the 29 wines you’re most likely to come across out in the world, and it will also help you understand why you should stop drinking Pinot Grigio. It will help you pick the perfect wine to bring to a party, and it will also connect the dots between natural wine and Muppets. From how wine is made, to whether or not it really needs to “breathe,” How To Drink Wine is meant to be a relatable, entertaining, educational read that will absolutely not teach you anything about a grape called Grechetto. Because right now, that’s not something you need to know. I promise.

That said, if you already do enjoy having high level discussions about obscure grapes from Italy, I have a feeling you’ll like this book too. At the very least it’s an entertaining read. Pop a bottle of something weird and send me a few angry emails.

Keep an eye out for more announcements on wine related events etc. Drinking wine alone is fun, but it’s a lot more fun with friends.
