El Mercadito Mexicano
Get your nails done, then grab some chorizo pizza. Located in a Jackson Heights shopping center that’s also home to a salon, an aquarium store, and a tattoo parlor, El Mercadito Mexicano specializes in thick-crust pies with toppings that range from elote and birria to your more traditional cheese and pepperoni. The Mexican-inspired options are the best, but they’re all pretty heavy, especially the al pastor with its blanket of pork, pineapple, and creamy chipotle sauce. One slice is enough. This counter-service spot also does some decent tacos, burritos, and quesadillas, and they have a few tables where you can sit and watch people filter in and out of the mini mall.
