The Avett Brothers
Friday Fives is back this week with some restaurant picks from the road. We’ve been huge Avett Brothers fans since their acclaimed I And Love And You album came out in 2009 and made us wish we knew how to play the banjo and look good in a “waistcoat.” The band’s incredibly badass cello player Joseph Kwon (far left in the photo) also knows a thing or two about where to find good eats, the pursuit of which he documents on his blog tasteontour.com. We like that.
Joe hit us up with some of his favorite food spots around the country, from the Carolinas to the West Coast. Check them out here, and make sure to go pick up the Avett Brothers new album, The Carpenter, available everywhere on September 11th.
The Avett Brother’s “Perfect For” Picks
Kiss Seafood (1700 Laguna St. / San Francisco, CA 94115) – “Mom and Pop shop that serves up the best sushi I’ve ever had. Don’t think you can just stroll in here, either – there are only 12 seats in the whole establishment.”
Fullsteam Brewery (726 Rigsbee Ave. / Durham, NC 27701) – “This local brewery has an amazing community space that always impresses out of towners. Oh, and their beer is top notch.”
B’s Barbecue (751 B’s Barbecue Rd. / Greenville, NC 27834) – “You can’t really consider it a whole in the wall joint any more. They cook up a set amount of pigs and when they sell out they close up shop. Go on an ECU game day and get Eastern NC BBQ before 10am or you won’t get your fix.”
Laughing Seed Cafe (40 Wall St. / Asheville, NC 28801) – “I’ve been known to try to be “healthy” so I get the Buddha’s bowl from Laughing Seed and eat my heart out. Extra dressing please!”
Lotus of Siam (A5, 953 East Sahara Ave. / Las Vegas, NV 89104) – “Introduced to me by a foodie friend of mine, this Las Vegas restaurant gets busy as soon as they open. I’ve never tasted Thai like this any where else in the US.”
Favorite Noodle Soup
Totto Ramen (366 West 52nd St. / New York, NY 10019) – “If there is a craving I get more than any other craving, it’s my noodle soup craving. Totto ramen does it up Japanese style and they do it quick to get you in and out on your way in minutes. Cash Only!”
The Avett Brother’s Twitter People
@nprnews – I guess this one’s a no brainer. Sometimes they call me NPR on tour because most of my sentences start with “I heard on NPR…”
@jimmyfallon – My favorite late night show. I loved him from the start.
@qestlove – Because he tweets more than anyone I know and sometimes gets news out faster than @nprnews.
@Gizmodo – Tech blog twitter feed because I like to be “in the know” on emerging gadget tech.
@Crackerfarm – He’s our photographer, and he’s one of the most talented photographers I know. He puts pretty things up on his feed.
