An #EatDowntown Meetup
Like so many other New Yorkers right now, we’re feeling an overwhelming responsibility to help those around us who were affected by Hurricane Sandy. There are many important ways, that you can help those in need and we’d encourage that you donate what you can in terms of time, money, gas, blood…anything that can help in the recovery effort. We’re going to be doing some things of our own to raise a buck or two in the coming weeks. More on that soon.
One thing we are obviously passionate about is making sure that some of these downtown restaurants who endured nearly a week out of business get back on their feet – and stay there. So we want to rally Infatuation Nation around the cause and make sure you are all eating out downtown this month. The first part of that is a new Instagram contest, #EatDowntown. It’s pretty simple. Go eat downtown, and tag your photos with #EatDowntown, @immaculateinfat, and the location. As always, winning photographer gets a seat at our Instagram Dinner of Champions next month. The second part is that we put together our own little meetup recently at one of our favorite restaurants to meet some of the people we interact with on Instagram all the time. We made a reservation for 10 at Prima and invited some of the first people to get into the #EatDowntown photo action. The #EatDowntown meetup dinner was a whole lot of fun and we’re planning on doing more things like this in the near future.
What: A Dinner with Stang & Steinthal downtown.
Where: Prima – 58 E. 1st St.
When: Thursday, November 8th, 8pm
How: Submit an #EatDowntown photo via Instagram.
We’d also like to suggest that you organize an #EatDowntown Meetup of your own, and let us know about it. If you didn’t make it to ours, tell us about yours and we’ll try and stop by for a drink. Ultimately, we just want to gather up the troops and help the people who depend on the downtown restaurant community for their livelihood. What better way to do it than by spending good money on good food and stiff drinks.
It’s practically your duty.
UPDATE: #EatDowntown wasn’t your typical Instagram challenge because it was, and remains, a movement. Keep supporting restaurants that were affected by Sandy. That being said, we pulled a winner anyway and it was easy because this person organized their own #EatDowntown meetup the same way we did and gathered with friends to spend some money on food and drink downtown. Congrats goes out to _jazzmatazz_ on Instagram. Her shot of her own #EatDowntown meetup at Great Jones Cafe took home the win.
By winning this challenge, Jasmine (@_jazzmatazz_) has won a seat at the table when we host an end of the year dinner next week for all our Instagram Challenge winners. Didn’t win? Don’t worry. More opportunities are on their way.
Thanks to everyone who uploaded their #EatDowntown photos. Keep the tag alive and keep tagging your pics when yo dine downtown.
